As a Trustee of the Smithsonian's
Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City, one of the perks is the chance to get a private tour of the exhibitions before they open by Curatorial Director Barbara Bloemink. Last week in NY, I had a chance to peek at the upcoming
Design Triennale which opens two days from now. On display are a multitude of rich experiences that set this triennale apart from previous ones. From a lifesize, ultrarealistic projection of an empathic CG soldier in realtime, to an environmentally-approved piece of a Boeing jetliner, to the original clay models from
The Incredibles, to a lifesaving machine for sustaining a living kidney, this exhibition is a breathtaking display of 21st century design. Also, in one of the many display spaces sits a wonderful exhibit of the actual physical sketches developed for the well-received experiment by Target in
pill bottles that are designed to be more legible than the garden variety (imagine that).
