Jacey Eckhart

Today I was interviewed on the radio for the Jacey Eckhart Show to talk about LOS. Depending upon which side of the fence you are on, we can all be in disagreement about the business of war and peace. However the one fact that most of us can agree upon is that the families of military personnel really face a complex life that is often thrust upon them without choice. In the interview, I referenced this great talk I saw by Helen Fisher at TED that attested to the unique power of women to handle complexity better than men. My wishes for peace and simplicity in 2007 go to all families on all sides.

The recent event in Boston hosted by Core77.com is now visible on the Web with podcasts and so forth. Thanks to Allan Chochinov for doing such a great job as host.

Simplicity in Seattle

Next week I will be in my hometown of Seattle to talk about The Laws of Simplicity at The Elliott Bay Book Company on Monday, November 20, at 7:30PM.

Medda x Maeda

Last month I had the honor of presenting at the Sarasota International Design Summit in Florida. The host was the Ringling School of Art & Design with Fast Company as the primary media sponsor. There, I was brought together by FC’s Linda Tischler with a long lost relative (at least lexically speaking) named Ambra Medda.

Besides having a last name similar to my own, Medda is the Director of Design Miami — a fresh and unique forum for exotic experiments in design. Linda was to moderate our discussion, but due to unforeseen circumstances the able Peter Kageyama moderated our discussion on simplicity and design. Given Medda’s precise vision on the relationship between design, culture, and business, my takeaway from the event was that Design Miami’s the place to go next year.

The good folks at beloved core77 are hosting a conference in Boston on November 15, 2006. I’m looking forward to meeting core77 Editor-in-Chief Allan Chochinov. Based upon our conversation on the telephone, he’s a man of great passion. Exhibiting the right level of passion is a surefire way to instill trust. Too little passion, then apathy breeds indifference; too much passion, then trust turns into fear. Allan’s level of passion is juuuuuuuust right.
